"The Forgotten Organ and A Simple Exercise Activity"

You need strong lungs in able for you to be physically healthy.

Your lungs expand when you breathe in and contract when you breathe out. When you inhale, there are little pockets in the lungs that fill up with air. The oxygen is then taken into the blood stream from these little pockets.

At the same time, carbon dioxide (CO2) is taken out of the blood vessels and fills up the air pockets inside the lungs. When you exhale, the carbon dioxide then leaves the body.

When you exercise, you should experience heavier than normal breathing. This is because when you work your body, they need more energy to function under intense exercise. The more intense the exercise then the more energy your body needs.

Since we need more energy when we train our muscles, we need more oxygen. The oxygen we breathe in will help convert our blood sugar (glucose) into usable energy for our muscles to use. Therefor if we need more energy - we need more oxygen.

A simple breathing exercise can help you develop strong lungs. Actually, it is as simple as breathing itself.

Lung Exercise: Breathe in as much air as you can. Hold for a second or two and then exhale. Repeat this exercise 10- to 20- times daily. Be careful not to force your lungs or to hold your breath too long. When you inhale, you should feel your chest rise and not your stomach.

Health and fitness is not about exercising your muscles but your organs as well.
