BRAINS & BRAWN #21

"Being Healthy: Malnourishment and Thin Bodies"
Picture
It's unfortunate that a lot of the populations in third world countries are malnourished.

Malnourishment is sometimes from the lack of accessibility there is to food. Another reason is that it's somewhat difficult for some of these people to make an income that will allow them to eat well.

From going to a third world country myself, I've noticed how the diets are usually by choice.

Eating highly acidic foods when they could choose something possibly less expensive and more healthier. Fillers like white rice and grain products instead of easy to grow greens (in the country I was in, greens were actually somewhat cheap to grow and purchase).

Some families also eat a high pork/beef fat diet where the slice of meat carries an equal amount of fat.

Surprisingly enough, there were a lot of thin bodies which were probably the results from not eating enough, but at the same time, there were also not so thin bodies. Bodies with beer bellies and well defined muscle.

One of the biggest differences and something that we can learn from when it comes to a third world country is that they work.

Think about it: machines and technology get expensive and that means they have to do things manually because they can't afford it.

This is especially true for home based businesses - which there is a lot of.

I remember a fellow I met in this country. I don't know what his eating habits were, but I noticed he had a well-defined body. Imagine a man about 5' 6" with an average body size but nice defined muscles. One thing I did know about him was that when he worked on something around the house - he didn't hire other people. He did the work himself.

Physical Activity Is Needed

I also recall a doctor giving a seminar on how exercise is pointless. Yes, that's right - a doctor. He was trying to get his argument across about how dieting is more important than physical activity. He is wrong. You need a balance of both.

To prove my point, if a person had a first class healthy diet but sat on the couch all day, every day, and did nothing, they would feel the aches and pains in their back and joints and gain weight as well.

One last thing to mention is that in time of absolute need, a multivitamin may be necessary. If you ever go to a third world country and stay with even a well-off family, you may need to bring vitamins with you. In times where it's difficult to get a proper variety of vitamins then that is only the time someone needs a supplement like a multivitamin.

In North America - we don't need them.

We just have to make sure that our body gets proper nourishment through eating right.
