BRAINS & BRAWN #15

"How Vegetables are Not The Devil"
Picture
The main course of our meals should be vegetables. Grains, meats and fish should be secondary.

The reason for this is that vegetables carry a lot of the nutrients that we need daily.

It's quite odd how some of us as kids go through the "green vegetables are disgusting" stage. Maybe it was the taste or that we had seen other kids who didn't like them and decided to copy the other children.

We can live off of fruits and vegetables alone. (Of course we need good old H2O, too)

Nuts are also another source of natural nutrients. They fall into a category of themselves because they are neither a fruit nor a vegetable.

Nuts also carry natural oils and fats that the body needs. They are usually labelled as a protein food. Beans on the other hand are considered vegetables. Beans are high in fiber and protein.

We can eat a good amount of vegetables to get the vitamins and minerals that the body needs. It is fairly difficult to "over eat" vegetables.

In the past decade, the word "organic" has become somewhat famous. The difference of organic and non-organic is the way farmers grow and process agricultural products. Agricultural products include both plants and animals.

Non-organic can also be called conventional farming. Non-organic means that the farmers will use chemicals, both synthetic and non-synthetic, like herbicides and pesticides to take care of the crops. Organic means that the farmers use natural resources to grow plants and take care of animals.

Organic is obviously the way to go - but what about the cost?

First of all, Man should not have started spraying chemicals on vegetation in the first place. The problem with this is that every so often, the bugs that survive the chemical spray may produce super-bug offspring. This means the next generation could be stronger than the last and be able to withstand the old spray.

So what does man do?

Man creates a new and stronger spray to get rid of them, and it becomes a cycle. There is no way that those chemicals are healthy for us - no way. And if we switch to buying organic food then that also means we have to pay the price.

It's insane but if a person can afford organic foods then it is logically the best way to go.
